In this workshop student will get to explore the dark side of theatre: tech. In this sampler, students will have the opportunity to paint and design props, learn the basics of sewing, and make models of sets for upcoming productions “The Little Prince” and “Be More Chill”. This tech sampler is about more than just learning basics, its about learning how to make cohesive design choices for main stage productions and the craft and care that go into doing behind the scenes work.

Creating movement is designed to give actors an understanding of what the body can do. From blowing like the wind to growing like a tree, creating movement will allow actors to develop ways to enhance their acting through their bodies. Discover new ways to tell a story through the art of self expression, improv, and movement.
Please note that this is not a dance course and no prior dance experience is necessary!

In this intensive, we will explore not only the basics of directing a play or musical, but also the intricacies of collaborating with a directing team. We will refer to famous directors and explore how each is different and can bring something new to a production. The hope is that each student leaves feeling empowered to work with a directing team with a more in depth knowledge of what each role does for the production.

Learn the intricacies and intersectionality of graphic design and theatre. This course is designed to introduce students to the elements of design and the benefits of consistent marketing and branding for theatre groups. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to and collaborate on the poster design for the upcoming production of “The Little Prince”. Students will be required to bring their own tablet or laptop with internet capabilities.

This focused intensive gives singers and performers the tools to build a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable voice. Participants will learn vocal anatomy basics, techniques for easing jaw, tongue, and neck tension, strategies for healthy belting, and guidance to caring for sick and tired voices. The course will include an introduction to SOVT and other healthy vocal warm-up exercises, practical vocal care tips for show week, and each attendee will leave with a physical toolkit to practice these exercises at home! In addition, this intensive will serve as a Masterclass. Each attendee is invited to bring a 16-32 bar cut of an audition song from their book to work one-on-one to see how these applications work in real time! If you intend to sing, please bring two copies of your sheet music as well as a karaoke track. (Participating in the masterclass is not mandatory to attend the session, but it is highly recommended.) By the end of this intensive, you’ll leave with a clear, effective toolkit to support confident and resilient vocal performance.
COURSE OBJECTIVES

Identify and release tension in the jaw, tongue, and neck to improve vocal ease and efficiency.
Develop healthy belting and mix-belting techniques that reduce strain and increase control.

Apply effective strategies for caring for a sick or fatigued voice.
Implement practical vocal care routines to maintain vocal health during show week.

How does one prepare for the performance of a monologue? Whether it is for an audition or a performance, actors have to make a lot of choices when preparing a monologue. By the end of this workshop, each student will have at least one practiced monologue that they can use for their next audition, as well as a process to use the next time they encounter the need to prepare one.

This intensive will explore shows from a variety of eras in American musical theatre history. From operettas, to the golden age, to the contemporary, we will investigate trends throughout Broadway's history and how it informs the Broadway we see today.
Course Objectives:
differentiating eras of musical theatre in America (and briefly acknowledging the types that came before such as operettas)
exploring a variety of shows from different eras in order to encourage students to engage with potentially new shows
discussion on how to produce older shows to contemporary audiences

This workshop will introduce young performers to the basics of Chekov Technique - a means of using physicality the way we move our bodies through space to create character and emotion. By breaking down the elements of performance - voice, movement, and space - will help actors become more intentional with how they perform different emotions, getting them out of their heads and back into the physical space.

This workshop will look at performance and character creation as a way to strengthen a young performer's sense of self and self-identity. We will explore character archetypes and type casting as we work to identify our "types" and explore ways to break out of those casts to fit ourselves into other kinds of roles. We will play with how to portray a wide range of identities, and in doing so, become more confident in our core identity.

Ages 13+
In this media/marketing training, instructor Riley Runnells will teach attendees about the importance of professional networking and the way to approach professional communications. She will walk students through how to optimize their resumes, create different resumes for career work versus extracurricular activities, and walk them through the importance of media literacy and how to discern fact from fiction. Finally, she will give tips on mentorship, the importance of finding the right mentor, and how to avoid unsafe mentorship situations, both in professional and personal settings.

• Learn about resume work and what a professional/theatre resume looks like

This workshop introduces actors to the fundamentals of the Single Sword style of stage combat. Participants will learn fluid movement, develop graceful partnering techniques, and gain practical strategies for navigating the physical and social complexities of staged violence.
Please arrive prepared with water, closed-toe shoes, and clothing that allows for easy movement.
