Musical Theatre History

This intensive will explore shows from a variety of eras in American musical theatre history. From operettas, to the golden age, to the contemporary, we will investigate trends throughout Broadway's history and how it informs the Broadway we see today. 

Course Objectives:

  • differentiating eras of musical theatre in America (and briefly acknowledging the types that came before such as operettas)

  • exploring a variety of shows from different eras in order to encourage students to engage with potentially new shows

  • discussion on how to produce older shows to contemporary audiences

This course will take place on 1/31 from 10-1 at the Bowling Green Community Center.

This workshop will be led by Mikayla Trimpey.

With a Masters degree in Theatre Arts from BGSU, Mikayla is a theatre artist excited to continue her involvement in local theatre ventures and collaborate with creative individuals in her community. She has performed with many community theatres in NW Ohio, including Black Swamp Players, 3B Productions, Issue Box, Waterville Playshop, and Stone Productions. She has also directed multiple productions with Horizon Youth Theatre, as well as serves on the board where she primarily contributes to the company's social media presence and grant writing. Through her experience with youth and community theatre, Mikayla has developed a passion for non-profit work and creating opportunities for young people to continue growing through their involvement in theatre- whether it be on stage, in a workshop, or behind the scenes.
