Directing Intensive

This workshop is open to students 13+

In this intensive, we will explore not only the basics of directing a play or musical, but also the intricacies of collaborating with a directing team. We will refer to famous directors and explore how each is different and can bring something new to a production. The hope is that each student leaves feeling empowered to work with a directing team with a more in depth knowledge of what each role does for the production. 

Course Objectives:

  • understanding directing team responsibilities

  • practice creating a concept

  • blocking

  • collaboration with designers and other production team members

This course will take place on 2/28 from 10-1 at the Bowling Green Community Center.

This workshop will be led by Mikayla Trimpey.

With a Masters degree in Theatre Arts from BGSU, Mikayla is a theatre artist excited to continue her involvement in local theatre ventures and collaborate with creative individuals in her community. She has performed with many community theatres in NW Ohio, including Black Swamp Players, 3B Productions, Issue Box, Waterville Playshop, and Stone Productions. She has also directed multiple productions with Horizon Youth Theatre, as well as serves on the board where she primarily contributes to the company's social media presence and grant writing. Through her experience with youth and community theatre, Mikayla has developed a passion for non-profit work and creating opportunities for young people to continue growing through their involvement in theatre- whether it be on stage, in a workshop, or behind the scenes.
