In this workshop student will get to explore the dark side of theatre: tech. In this sampler, students will have the opportunity to paint and design props, learn the basics of sewing, and make models of sets for upcoming productions “The Little Prince” and “Be More Chill”. This tech sampler is about more than just learning basics, its about learning how to make cohesive design choices for main stage productions and the craft and care that go into doing behind the scenes work.

Course Objectives:

  • learn the basics of property design

  • learn the intricacies of working with a design team

  • design and create props for upcoming productions

  • learn foundational skills in painting and sewing

This course will take place on 2/28 from 1-5 at the Bowling Green Community Center.

The instructors for this course are Harley Partlow, Liz Robertson, and Madi Chase.

Liz Robertson is a former educator who has been doing theater in some capacity for the last 25 years. Presently, she is the outreach case manager at the YWCA of NWO Domestic Violence Shelter. She has worked with other local theatre groups including Issue Box Theatre and Stone Productions. She has a passion for technical theater and creating theatre that accurately reflects and represents the population that she serves while maintaining punk rock values such as DIY and relying on the strength of community to overcome any obstacle. She currently acts as the President and Artistic Director of Horizon Youth Theatre.
