This workshop introduces actors to the fundamentals of the Single Sword style of stage combat. Participants will learn fluid movement, develop graceful partnering techniques, and gain practical strategies for navigating the physical and social complexities of staged violence.

Please arrive prepared with water, closed-toe shoes, and clothing that allows for easy movement.

By the end of the lesson students will have a basic understanding of….

  • Stances and movement.

  • Single Sword - Offensive/Defensive structure .

  • Telling the story through action.

  • Safety - How and when to say no.

The instructor for this course is Patrick Mahood.

Patrick is an instructor, actor, director, and fight choreographer with over 20 years of experience. He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University’s College of Education. During his time at BGSU, he worked both on stage and backstage, and directed the independent short-form improv troupe The Plastic Shatners for two and a half years.

Patrick is an experienced fight choreographer and a member of the Society of American Fight Directors(20 Hours R/D, Single-S, Small-S, S&S). He has choreographed for numerous productions including Macbeth and She Kills Monsters, bringing dynamic and safe violence to the theatre experience.
