Director’s Note

First, I’d like to thank each and every one of you reading this for supporting Horizon Youth Theatre for yet another production. As an HYT alum, current board member, and teaching artist, I feel a strong sense of pride in the fantastic work this organization consistently creates. I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with every member of this production team, cast, and crew.

This production is a prime example of the creativity and emotional connection that youth theater promotes. "She Kills Monsters" is a thrilling adventure full of grief, love, magic, and friendship. The element of Dungeons and Dragons throughout the script has not only created opportunities for our students to develop magical, otherworldly characters through movement, voice, and costume, but it’s also reminiscent of our childhood experience of “playing pretend” as we take household elements and reimagine them as the magical realm of Newlandia — this has also created a running joke that our overall theme for the production is: basement.

I hope you enjoy our show, and thank you for supporting the arts!

-Mikayla Trimpey, Director
