Script Mentoring Workshop
At Horizon Youth Theatre, we are dedicated to offering educational opportunities for each step of the theatre process. With our Script Mentoring Workshop, our students start at the very beginning — the blank page.
The spring slot of our season every year is dedicated to performing original short plays written by HYT students for HYT students. The Script Mentoring Workshop is what gives those young scriptwriters the jump start they need. Interested students are paired with an adult mentor who will guide them through the script writing process — developing three dimensional characters, plotting and pacing an interesting storyline, writing natural dialogue, and how to put all these elements together into a performable script.
Scripts will be blindly labelled and submitted to our Script Committee for review. All scripts will be reviewed and comments by our Script Committee will be returned.
Our annual Spring Festival of Shorts: A collection of one-act plays written and performed by students – allows young scriptwriters the chance to see their work performed. Our Script Mentoring Workshop helps gives those scripts the elements they need to be selected for performance.
