Auditions are held about 8 weeks before each production. A 1 minute monologue is required for any speaking roles. The student may be asked to read from the script at auditions also. No previous experience is necessary and we encourage new students. The director will be looking for strong voices and expression.
Once a cast list is decided, it will be emailed. If a child is not cast, they are invited and encouraged to audition for the next show.
Rehearsals are about 6 weeks long and a schedule will be provided. Tech week is more intense with mostly daily rehearsals. Occasionally, a Saturday or Sunday may be required. Actors are expected to be at all rehearsals and performances unless pre-approved by the director.
There is a participation fee to perform in HYT productions and a smaller fee for crew members. A discount may be given to siblings and scholorships may be avalable. No additional fees will be required. One script is provided for each actor. Costumes are also provided whenever possible – however, students may be required to provide some of their own costume pieces. HYT asks for parent participation by handing out programs, ushering, helping backstage, costumes, helping with performances, advertising, cast party, refreshments, or snacks. Sign up opportunities are provided at the required parent meeting.
