Horizon Youth Theatre presents a program of short one act plays written and performed by students. One play has been created and will be acted by the Devising Workshop; the others were chosen from those written during the mentoring program.
Auditions are open to ages 7-18. No previous experience necessary.
How to audition:
- Submit audition form
- Submit one monologue from the audition packet to flipgrid.com/hytauditions
Audition form and monologue video need to be submitted by midnight on Friday, April 16.
Students should plan on in-person rehearsals. We will be working with each director to help find locations. Weather permitting, families are free to offer use of their yards, porches, etc. Most rehearsals will likely take place in publicly accessible areas like the Woodland Mall or City Park. For in-person rehearsals, students should plan on wearing masks. We will continue to monitor the public health guidelines before deciding whether masks are required during filming.
We will rehearse for about 5 weeks and a schedule will be provided. Occasionally, a Saturday or Sunday may be required. Actors are expected to be at all rehearsals and performances (whether virtual or in person) unless pre-approved by the director. Unexcused absences may result in dismissal. Be sure to communicate with the director.
The cast list will be announced via email, HYT website, and Facebook as soon as possible. If a child is not cast, they are invited and encouraged to audition for the next available opportunity. Keep trying!
We are hoping to record each production during the week of May 17, with streaming dates TBD. Recording schedules will be based upon the availability of all cast members.
There is a $40 participation fee. A discount may be given to siblings and scholarships may be available. No additional fees will be required. One script is provided for each actor. Students may be required to provide some of their own costume pieces. HYT normally asks for parent participation in handing out programs, ushering, costumes, helping with performances, advertising, refreshments, or snacks. Due to the pandemic, however, with the performances being recorded, there may be minimal parent involvement required.
